In an effort to balance enrollment, Fort Campbell Schools will partially rezone attendance boundaries at four elementary schools this fall.
Students affected by this change will be those that reside on Harrison Street, Steele Loop in New Hammond Heights, a portion of Cordes Street in New Hammond Heights. These students went to Jackson Elementary School this past year, but will attend Marshall Elementary this fall.
Also, students living in McAuliffe Park, who attended Barkley Elementary School last year, will move to Lincoln Elementary this fall.
These changes will take affect when classes begin Aug. 5. The announcement was made at the May 28 School Board meeting.
"The reason that we are actually rezoning is that we have a need to balance our enrollment," Rhonda Welliever, administrative assistant to the assistant superintendents, said in a phone interview Wednesday. "We've got to move the students rather than the teachers… We just really need to balance our enrollment and our class size."
Post population, Welliever said, has affected the elementary school enrollment.
"It's due to the movement on post – different age group Soldiers moving in with older kids that aren't in elementary school," she said. "It gets like this every couple of years where we need to rezone."
