The DoD is Fully Aware of the Importance of Education

CEOA meeting

The DoD is fully aware of the importance of education and the role it plays in the success, stability, achievement, and fulfillment of Servicemembers and their families.

The DoD is committed to providing educational opportunities for all military children – those who attend DoDEA schools, and those who attend local education agency schools – while balancing quality and cost and exploring all options and alternatives.

The study will be thorough, deliberate, pragmatic, and objective and consider input from all stakeholders including, but not limited to – parents, employees, Military Services, Local Education Agencies (LEA) and education experts/organizations. The findings and recommendations will be reviewed by senior officials in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Military Services. The time and resource investment in the study is critical. We owe it to our military families to ensure that the decisions concerning the education of our military-connected children are the result of sound research findings and recommendations.

The study is not…

  • Intended to minimalize or mitigate DoDEA’s mission of educating children;
  • A reflection on the important work of teaching and learning that goes on every day in our schools; or
  • Intended to minimalize the care, support, and concern our teachers and school staff members show our students each and every day nor does it intend to marginalize their expertise in helping students cope with the unique challenges of change, transition and separation that our students experience as part of military family life.
