4th and 5th grade gifted students at Pope Elementary competed in the National Stock Market Game for the Eastern Region and ranked second out of 23 other elementary schools.
The Stock Market Game program (SMG) offers an immense library of learning materials which correlate to the national educational standards in Math, Business Education, Economics, English/Language Arts, Technology, Social Studies, and Family/Consumer Sciences. The program also teaches and reinforces essential skills and concepts of critical thinking, decision-making, cooperative learning, communication, independent research, saving money and making investments.
Students use actual Internet research and news updates, making the simulation an even better mirror of the real marketplace. While the game creates student excitement, the impact of the educational experience is incomparable.Pope ES students along with their teacher, principal, and parents attended the North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE) 2013 Awards Banquet at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, NC on May 17, 2013. The award was presented by Dr. June Atkinson, Superintendent of Public Instruction.
