About Aukamm Elementary School

Aukamm Elementary School (AES) is located in Wiesbaden, Germany. AES is part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and supported by the Kaiserslautern School District. AES collaborates with the other schools in the Wiesbaden Complex, which includes Hainerberg Elementary School, Wiesbaden Middle School, and Wiesbaden High School.

AES serves 243 students in grades K-5 who primarily live in the Aukamm military housing area. A small number of students live in the local community, as well as in other housing areas, and attend AES on waivers.

There are ten gradel level classes in kinder- 5th and two multiage classes in 1-2 grade and 4-5 grade, as well as additional classes to enrich the academic program, including art, music, physical education, FLES-Spanish (Foreign Language in the Elementary School), media center instruction, and technology. Instructional specialists in the areas of reading, math, gifted education, special education, speech/language, and English as a Second Language (ESL) also support the academic program. AES has a full-time school nurse, counselor, and an itinerant school psychologist who assists teachers and students.

To welcome new students and families prior to the first day of school the principal provides new student orientation tours. The school nurse continues this welcome process for students who transfer in mid-year. The average tour of duty for families in Wiesbaden is three years. The vast majority of students have at least one parent who serves in the military, with the remainder of students having at least one parent who works in a related civilian position. Approximately 30% of our students have a deployed parent.  The anticipated increase in AES over the coming year may mean creative solutions for space issues and maximizing facility usage.

Through DoDEA’s mission statement, “Educate, Engage, and Empower Each student to succeed in a dynamic world”, students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. The mission statement expresses AES’s and DoDEA’s belief that students must be educated, engaged, and empowered. AES’s vision statement, “Committed to Inspiring a Community of Life-Long Learners”, reflects that the school’s program is diverse and differentiated to meet the needs of every student.
