Dr. Vickie Bannerman
Biography
Dr. Vickie Bannerman is a distinguished educator and administrator with over 24 years of comprehensive experience in the educational sector, from classroom teaching to high-level executive leadership. As the newly appointed New York/Virginia Community Superintendent for the Mid-Atlantic District, effective April 21, 2024, she brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and a purpose-driven passion for educational excellence and community service.
Dr. Bannerman's recent role as Chief Academic and Compliance Officer in Albuquerque, NM, underscored her commitment to academic excellence and compliance standards. Her tenure as Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the Identity, Equity, and Transformation Division at the New Mexico Public Education Department showcased her leadership and dedication to serving a diverse student body, including 322,989 students and over 21,681 teachers across various districts and schools. Dr. Bannerman's influence extended to multiple divisions, including Indian Education, Language and Culture, Special Education, and Charter Schools, as well as Safe and Healthy Schools and several support bureaus, demonstrating her capability to lead multifaceted educational initiatives and manage multimillion-dollar budgets effectively.
Before her impactful service in New Mexico, Dr. Bannerman excelled as the principal of Volcano Vista High School and Wilson Middle School in Albuquerque, NM, and served as the Director of Graduate Programs for the University of Oklahoma campuses in England, United Kingdom. Her diverse educational and administrative experiences across different states and countries highlight her adaptability and global perspective on education.
Dr. Bannerman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Bachelor of Arts degree in African and African American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and a Doctor of Education degree, with a concentration in Educational Administration, from the University of Phoenix.
Apart from her professional pursuits, Dr. Bannerman is a dedicated wife to MSgt Carlton Bannerman, a respected member of the United States Air Force, and a loving mother to their two children, Camryn and Victoria. Her personal and professional life reflects a deep commitment to serving military-affiliated students, schools, families, and communities, making her an invaluable asset to the Mid-Atlantic District and the New York/Virginia Community.
