Dr. Angelo Barcinas

Biography

Dr. Angelo Barcinas serves as the Mid-Atlantic District Chief of Staff in Fort Liberty, North Carolina. He brings over a decade of experience as both a classroom teacher and instructional leader from pre-kindergarten to high school. A Combat Army veteran, Dr. Barcinas’ journey in education began in Guam, as a middle school science teacher in the Guam Department of Education. He then transitioned to the alternative school that served at-risk students of all middle and high school public schools. He served as a Health, Physical Education, and Science Teacher. He was an intricate member of the leadership team that promoted and increased student success.

Prior to becoming the Mid-Atlantic District Chief of Staff, Dr. Barcinas deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 for Operation Enduring Freedom and he was inspired to become a social change agent for his island. Although he became a school administrator, he was able to continue teaching at the University of Guam, as an adjunct professor of graduate students pursuing their master’s degree in education. In January 2018, Dr. Barcinas joined the DoDEA family as the assistant principal for Bahrain Unit School, later converted to Bahrain Middle High School in the Kingdom of Bahrain. From Bahrain, he served as the lead administrator for Sevilla Elementary Middle School on Morón Air Base in Sevilla, Spain. Prior to his current role, he was the principal of West Point Elementary School in West Point, New York and then the principal of W.T. Sampson Unit School in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He considers himself extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work side by side with his colleagues to serve our military-connected students. Both him and his wife have experience in the Armed Forces and understands the challenges of deployments and relocations. Also, as a dependent of a retired Army Veteran and a former DoDEA student, it has given him much pride and honor to serve in his capacity.

Dr. Barcinas earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at Missouri Valley College, a Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Guam, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Change from Walden University. As a lifelong learner, he believes that education creates opportunities for all students and how we positively impact our students today will lead to a prosperous future.
