Dr. Marcitia Ekeh
Biography
Dr. Marcitia Ekeh joins Osan Middle High School as the new Assistant Principal. Dr. Ekeh is an accomplished and dedicated educational leader with a passion for cultivating a positive and student-engaged learning environment. Dr. Ekeh earned her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in biology from Union College in Kentucky where she was originally pre-med but later decided to focus on biology. She later began her master’s in microbiology at Georgia State University, but months after doing an internship which consisted of studying and monitoring microbes all day, she decided against this career path. Dr. Ekeh’s next career was with AT&T for 8 years, where she ended as a T1 Installation Technician. After a massive regional layoff from AT&T, she entered the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP) program. It was here where her educational journey began at two Atlanta area surrounding school districts (Clayton & Douglas Counties), where she has taught Physical Science, Human Anatomy, Chemistry. Environmental Science, Forensics, and Biology. She later interviewed and became Department Chair where her passion grew of helping other teachers develop rigorous and relevant innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement.
After receiving her master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Dr. Ekeh joined Georgia Connections Academy (GACA) as Department Chair where her leadership roles grew in multiple capacities to help pioneer the first year of grades 9-12. While at GACA she taught Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, and AP Physics. She started her career with DODEA in 2015 at Edgren Middle High School in Misawa, Japan where she taught 7th and 8th grade Science, Biology, and Health. Dr. Ekeh joined DODEA Virtual Summer School in the summer of 2020 teaching Health (9-12) for the past four years where she facilitated a blended synchronous and asynchronous environment for online learners. In 2021, she later transferred to Zama Middle High School on Camp Zama, Japan where she taught 6th and 7th grade science and AP Environmental Science.
During her time in DODEA, Dr. Ekeh has gained an understanding of the needs and challenges of all age groups from 6th -12th grades. She has served in several extracurricular duties mostly as NHS and NJHS advisor and class sponsor of 12th and 7th graders. Dr. Ekeh understands and values the importance of building strong relationships between the school and the community. She has initiated partnerships with local organizations, parents, and community leaders to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
She has also enjoyed engaging in the CSI process at both schools, helping to facilitate the professional development to implement the school and district’s improvement initiatives to achieve COGNIA accreditation. With 18 years of experience in education, she has made significant contributions to the academic and social development of students.
Dr. Ekeh has an Educational Leadership doctorate degree from Jones International University, where she gained a solid foundation in educational theory and pedagogy. She is not only an accomplished educator but also a visionary leader who is dedicated to shaping the next generation of successful and engaged citizens.
Dr. Ekeh is excited to join Osan Middle High School, her commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders in continuing to foster a positive and student-centered focus is her vision. She hopes to make an impact on the school community, by assisting to ensure students continue to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. Most importantly, making sure Osan Middle High School is an inclusive and positive learning environment for staff and students.
Dr. Ekeh is currently accompanied by her husband Prince Ekeh, and they are excited to begin this new adventure in South Korea. Together they have four children, two who are products of D0DEA schools (1 son Rhomonte– 26, 3 girls -Asanna -20, Emanuella-13, and Faith-10) and one new granddaughter 5 months. The children will soon visit to create memorable experiences in South Korea.
