Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Thomson
Biography
Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Thomson began his school leadership position as assistant principal for the Boeblingen Elementary/Middle School in the DoDDS-Europe Heidelberg and Bavaria Districts. Prior to his appointment to Boeblingen EMS, Dr. Thomson was a 3rd grade educator at Grafenwoehr Elementary in the Bavaria District, a 5th grade educator at Amelia Earhart Intermediate School in the Okinawa District, and special education instructor for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, also at Amelia Earhart IS. Dr. Thomson also taught 5th grade and emotionally impaired students in the Okaloosa County School District, Florida.
Prior to becoming a DoDEA educator, Dr. Thomson served 21 years in the United States Air Force as a Korean Linguist. His duty assignments included U.S. based locations in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida, and overseas bases in Okinawa, Japan and the Republic of Korea. He also completed multiple temporary assignments including two tours to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Southern Watch. While assigned to active duty, Dr. Thomson completed an Associate of Applied Science in Interpreting and Translating from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior University, New York, and Master of Education from the University of West Florida. In 2012, Dr. Thomson was awarded his Doctorate in Education Leadership from Northcentral University, Arizona.
Dr. Thomson believes among his roles as a DoDEA educational leader are to promote the opportunities for the highest achievement of every student, facilitate the best practices of instruction and professional development of each educator, and uphold the mission of the Department of Defense by supporting the military forces needed to deter war and protect the security of our country.
