Born in the sunny city of Los Angeles, California, Heather Rhine has been in the education field for 24 years, fourteen of which have been in school level administration. Mrs. Rhine believes strongly that all students graduating from our school system must be college and/or career ready, and that the path to success lies in a focus on 21st century learning skills. In these roles, she worked with the Professional Learning Communities Cadre, the GearUp Grant, AVID, Springboard, College Board. Ms. Rhine’s school-level administrative career began in the Department of Defense Education Activity as Assistant Principal of Yokosuka Middle School, Japan in 2010. Since 2018 she served as the Assistant Principal for SHAPE American High School at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium. It was here that she fell in love with the rich diversity of a NATO environment and the added value it gives all nations’ students.
Outside of the education environment, Mrs. Rhine has a love of travel and exploring the world around her. As of summer 2024, she has worked in 7 countries, set foot on all 7 continents, visited 126 countries, and can say “good morning” in all of the NATO languages. NATO and Partnership in Peace countries have been a priority over the last few years, and she has now stepped foot in every country from which our students might join us. She thoroughly enjoys attending school events and understands the powerful and positive effect of building relationships within the community and supporting students as they pursue their own passions. She is excited to be here at AFNORTH International School and looks forward to the learning opportunities of working with multiple commands across three countries and collaborating with the multiple nation sections to ensure excellence in education for all students.
