Mr. Ismail El-Shaakir
Biography
Mr. El-Shaakir began his educational career as a 4th Grade teacher at Northboro Montessori Magnet School in Palm Beach County, FL. He also taught 4th Grade at Miramar Elementary in Broward County, FL. After several years of teaching in traditional public schools, Mr. El-Shaakir transitioned to the City of Pembroke Pines Charter School in Pembroke Pines, FL where he taught 4th Grade and served as the grade level chairperson and afterschool director. In 2005, Mr. El-Shaakir relocated to Georgia and began teaching 5th Grade at Dunaire Elementary in Dekalb County, GA and finished his teaching career at Simonton Elementary in Gwinnett County, GA.
After ten years of teaching, he moved into administration and served as an Assistant Principal at Richards Middle School in Gwinnett County, GA. In 2014, Mr. El-Shaakir returned to his hometown of New Orleans and served as the Director of Students and Families at Mildred Osborne Charter School and later accepted an Assistant Principal position in Escambia County School District in Florida. Mr. El-Shaakir returned to New Orleans to serve as the founding principal at Travis Hill in 2016. In 2018, Mr. El-Shaakir joined New Orleans Louisiana Public Schools and served as a School Support and Operations Administrator. In this role, he supported schools across the city and served as Principal of Edgar P. Harney Elementary and Coghill Elementary.
Mr. El-Shaakir is excited to serve Maxwell Air Force Base as a Veteran of the United Stated Marine Corps. During his time in the service, he was stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan and finished his service with an Honorable Discharge in Miami, Florida. During his time in the Marine Corps, he was awarded a National Defense Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
A graduate of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Mr. El-Shaakir holds an Associate in Arts from Miami-Dade College, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Florida Memorial University, a Masters in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University, and an Educational Specialist in Performance-Based Educational Leadership from Mercer University.
Mr. El-Shaakir is the father of three adult sons, a novice gardener, avid runner, and cycling enthusiast.
