Mr. Jesus Calderon
Biography
Mr. Calderon was born in Zacatecas, Mexico then later moved to Los Angeles, California. Upon graduating High School, Mr. Calderon joined the United States Marine Corps and served for four years active duty. He attended California State University Fullerton and earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, with the idea of becoming a police officer.
Upon graduating, Mr. Calderon was recruited and taught at the Long Beach Unified School District, in California. Yet, he still wanted to serve the community as a police officer. Mr. Calderon left teaching for six years, to serve as a law enforcement officer, but then came back to teaching, his true calling.
Mr. Calderon moved to San Antonio, Texas, to continue with his teaching career, and attended the University of Texas at San Antonio. Mr. Calderon received a Master of Art in Curriculum and Instruction and continued with his studies to earn his certification in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Calderon taught elementary school and served as an assistant principal at San Antonio, Texas for nine years, before joining DoDEA in 2011 as an assistant principal. He served at Casey Elementary School in South Korea for a year and then moved to Osan High School for a year and a half, before taking the principal position at Daegu Elementary School, where he served for the last four and a half years.
At Daegu, Mr. Calderon enjoyed working closely with teachers and stakeholders to provide the students the highest quality educational experience. Together, they have created a positive learning environment that made Daegu Elementary School, their “home away from home.”
Mr. Calderon then accepted the Principal position at RAF Lakenheath Elementary School in the United Kingdom, yet once the opportunity opened to return to the Pacific, he applied and accepted the Principal position at Atsugi.
Mr. Calderon, his wife, Jessica, and Matthew his son are very excited to be a part of the Shirley Lanham Elementary School team and community. He continues to enjoy working collaboratively with the students, staff, and community, and to ensure that we provide a positive learning environment for our military connected students.
