Mr. Kristopher R. Kwiatek
Biography
Principal Kwiatek will assume his duties as the Principal of Bob Hope ES and begin his new role for SY 2022-23. Kwiatek moves over from Kadena High School, the largest DoDEA High School in the DoDEA Pacific Region. Principal Kwiatek has served as the Kadena HS Principal since December 2015 after serving as the Principal of Kadena Middle School. Kwiatek received the honor of being named the 2019 DoDEA Pacific Principal of the year. Prior to arriving in Okinawa, Kwiatek was assigned to DoDEA Korea, now known as the Pacific West District, where he opened a new high school in Daegu, South Korea. Kwiatek served as the Principal of Daegu High from 2010 to 2014. Prior to serving as the Principal of DHS, Kwiatek was the Assistant Principal of Seoul American High School and prior to that he served as the Assistant Principal at Seoul American Elementary School. Kwiatek joined DoDEA in 2003 as a Kindergarten teacher and later taught 5th grade in the Pacific East District, before accepting a position as an Instructional Systems Support Specialist at the Pacific West District Superintendent’s office.
Mr. Kwiatek was born in Jackson, Michigan and spent most of his childhood in Traverse City, Michigan. Prior to entering the field of Education, Mr. Kwiatek was in the United States Air Force. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in education from the University of Maryland and later went on to earn a master’s degree in Education. He also holds a master’s degree from Northcentral University in Instructional and Curriculum Leadership
Kwiatek has four children, three daughters and one son, and his hobbies include exploring Okinawa with his wife, deep sea fishing, and skiing in northern Japan during the winter months. When speaking about his children and family, Kwiatek stated, “One of things I am most proud of is that my three daughters attended Kinder through 12th grade and graduated from our DoDEA schools. I am proud to be part of the DoDEA and Military family here in Okinawa, Japan.” When asked what he enjoyed most about being the Principal of KDHS he responded, “By far, working with and supporting students as they progressed through high school, along with developing strong relationships with the teachers, parents and Kadena Community. Kadena High School will always have a place in my heart.” When asked about his new role as the Principal of BHES, Mr. Kwiatek shared that he is honored to take on the new role, looks forward to working with the teachers, and getting to know the students and families. “What an honor to be able to join the teaching team and staff at Bob Hope. I look forward to being part of the Shisa family.”
