Mr. Richard Dye

Biography

Mr. Dye was raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. He joined the US Navy and is a veteran of the Gulf War. Following an honorable discharge, he lived 20 years in suburban Memphis, Tennessee and earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Memphis in 2002. In 2005, Mr. Dye earned a master’s degree in education from Union University. He has completed course work in Educational Leadership at Arkansas State University, University of San Diego, and is pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.

Mr. Dye’s career in education began in 1995 as a classroom tutor and school bus driver for Shelby County Schools. In 2002, he began teaching English at one of Memphis’ inner-city schools, Kingsbury High School and led district-wide reading focused professional development, and then taught at Woodstock Middle School. Since joining the DoDEA family in 2009, Mr. Dye has taught at Seoul American Middle School in Seoul, South Korea and MC Perry High School in Iwakuni, Japan. He served as the Assistant Principal of Sigonella MHS improving the educational opportunities of military-connected students in the Europe South District from 2014 through 2021 before transitioning to Ramstein Intermediate School.

Mr. Dye is committed to the pursuit of excellence in leadership. Empowering teacher leaders and working collaboratively to identify and address areas of improvement through data collection and analysis to inform, action planning and staff development which positively impacts classroom instruction and student learning. Mr. Dye believes that targeted data collection and analysis should drive our action plans to best support our student’s individual needs. He is also interested in development of the whole child and sponsored the Chess Club inspiring thinkers and planners. He is an advocate for Social Emotional Learning and promotes the “One Caring Adult” program which decreased the occurrence of failing grades in a previous school. He is an advocate for student excellence, striving for high levels of academic inclusion and equitable resource allocation.

Mr. Dye is 32 years married to Kimberly. They have an adult son, Micah, a daughter, Gwena is a Senior at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Luke a high school junior. The family enjoys travel, learning about new cultures. They are excited to join the Smith Elementary family and look forward to working in the Baumholder Community.
