Mr. Scott Finlay

Biography

Mr. Scott Finlay was born and raised in North Salem, New York, the son of a plumber and stay at home mother.  He attended Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire and received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Special Education.  Upon graduation he taught Special Education and fourth grade in Thomaston, Connecticut.  Not knowing what amazing things lay ahead, he joined the DoDEA family in 1989.  His first duty station was at Nellingen Elementary School in Stuttgart, Germany where he taught fourth and fifth grades. It was here that he met the love of his life, Erica, a teacher at the same school. After three years there, Nellingen Barracks closed in 1992, Erica and Scott were married, and they moved to Smith Elementary School in Baumholder, Germany.  They both taught there for eleven years and had three amazing children; Emma, Ethan, and Dylan.  While at Smith Elementary School he taught Special Education and was the Case Study Committee Chairperson.  During his stay in Baumholder he earned his Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Supervision and Curriculum.

In 2003 Mr. Finlay became the Assistant Principal at Sollars’ Elementary School in Misawa, Japan. After five wonderful years in Misawa he was promoted to Principal of Ikego Elementary School in Yokosuka, Japan in 2008 where he loved being an Ikego Firefly.  In 2012 he and his family returned to Germany where he has proudly served as the Vilseck Elementary School Principal for the past ten years. 

Mr. Finlay has lived a very charmed life filled with amazing experiences and opportunities.  He has traveled the world, had the chance to learn, grow, and met fantastic people along the way.  His next amazing opportunity is to lead Alconbury Elementary School, home of the Little Dragons, an experience he can’t wait to start!
