Ms. Andrea Prior
Biography
Ms. Prior is an accomplished educator with a rich background in supporting diverse populations and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. With more than 20 years of on-site teaching experience, she has demonstrated her commitment to enhancing instructional practices and promoting a positive educational environment.
Having started her career in Arizona, Andrea's upbringing in a family of educators instilled in her a passion for learning from an early age. Her journey led her to DODEA in 2002, where she served in various roles at R.E. Byrd Elementary in Yokohama, Japan, and later at The Sullivans School and Ikego Elementary. Her experience includes serving as a Sure Start teacher, Literacy Support Specialist, ESOL Teacher, and Information Specialist.
Throughout her career, Andrea has been a proponent of trust, active listening, and fostering real-world experiences to support student success. She firmly believes in maintaining a shared vision among stakeholders to keep students at the heart of educational initiatives.
Andrea holds degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, with emphasis areas in Multicultural and Diverse Education, English, and Music. She has also earned advanced degrees in Educational Leadership and Administration, focusing on Curriculum and Assessment. Additionally, she holds certifications in Library Science, English as a Second Language, and Reading Support.
Currently serving as the assistant principal at MC Perry Primary School and Iwakuni Intermediate in Iwakuni, Japan, Andrea is dedicated to leverage her expertise in helping to launch the new Yokosuka Primary School, to include the Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) program. Her goal is to ensure every student has access to the resources and support they need to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. Andrea looks forward to collaborating with the Yokosuka community to promote a culture of excellence and student achievement.
