Ms. Laura Gibson
Biography
Laura Gibson joined DoDEA in 2000 as a social studies teacher at Fort Knox High School. Since then she has served as a high school counselor, assistant principal and elementary school principal. Her first principalship was at Van Voorhis Elementary in 2008. In 2011 she began her leadership at Kingsolver Elementary for three years during which the school earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award in 2013. In 2014, Ms. Gibson became principal of Macdonald Elementary where she served for two years before returning for an anchor year at Van Voorhis. Ms. Gibson then led the transition into the new 21st century learning environment of the new Kingsolver in 2017 and served as its principal until 2023. Â She has now returned to Van Voorhis Elementary as it similarly transitions to its new 21st century building, scheduled to open in the 2024-2025 school year.Â
Ms. Gibson is proud of being a former DoDEA 1st through 12th grade student and a Fort Knox High School graduate. Having moved from base to base as a child, Ms. Gibson now calls Kentucky home. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, a Master degree in Counseling, and a Rank 1 in Educational Leadership – all from Western Kentucky University. Prior to joining DoDEA, she taught in the state of Kentucky at Elizabethtown High School for 12 years.
Ms. Gibson has a grown son and step-daughter, and was married to Mr. Gary Gibson, who was a principal for DoDEA for a short period of time.
