Ms. Tawana Liz
Biography
Ms. Liz brings a collective 14 years of experience in education and a deep commitment to fostering student success. Most recently, she served as an Elementary Instructional Systems Specialist (ISS), providing invaluable support to all five elementary schools on the Camp Lejeune installation. Her leadership extends beyond the school community, as she has contributed to district and regional initiatives, including serving on the Mid-Atlantic Literacy Committee, the Mid-Atlantic HQIP Lead, and as the lead for the Regional Continuous Improvement Plan’s MTSS Committee.
A native of Hampton Roads, Virginia, Ms. Liz is deeply connected to the military community, having grown up as a military child with her father serving in the Air Force at Langley Air Force Base. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and American Studies from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and later completed her Master’s degree in Education and Administration from Trinity Washington University.
Ms. Liz joined DoDEA in 2018 after an impressive eight-year tenure in the District of Columbia Public School system. Seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth, she transitioned to the Fort Jackson Community as a 4th-grade teacher, where her leadership and passion for education were evident. She served as the CSI Chair, Site Literacy Leader, and Reading Proficiency Tool Coordinator. Her exceptional contributions earned her nominations for the DoDEA Southeast District Teacher of the Year in 2020 and 2021, and she was a Finalist for the 2020 Dr. Linda L. Curtis Educator of Promise award.
Throughout her career, Ms. Liz has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting military-connected students in achieving their full potential. She is excited to continue this mission in her new role as Assistant Principal, working collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to uphold DoDEA’s Vision and Mission. She is joined at Camp Lejeune by her husband, son and daughter.
