Ms. Whitney Iglesias

Biography

Ms. Iglesias was born and raised in Grenada, Mississippi, where she developed a strong sense of dedication and service. After graduating from high school, Ms. Iglesias decided to serve her country and joined the United States Army. She spent a total of 8 years in the military, where she learned invaluable skills in leadership and teamwork. Following her service, Ms. Iglesias pursued her passion for education. She attended Fayetteville State University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in English Language Arts. With her degree in hand, she began her journey in education. Ms. Iglesias’s dedication and commitment to education drove her to start as a substitute teacher in Cumberland County Schools. Later, she became a sixth-grade remediation teacher at Westover Middle School, and eventually transitioned to a sixth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Anne Chesnutt Middle School. During her time at Anne Chesnutt, Ms.Iglesias became deeply involved in school activities. She coached girls’ basketball and girls track, served as a grade level chair, organized field trips, prom, graduation, and was an integral part of the school improvement team.

While teaching, Ms. Iglesias pursued further education, obtaining her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. In 2019, she represented Cumberland County Schools in the Sandhills Regional Educational Consortium, where she earned her Master’s in School Administration. Shortly after completing her degree, Ms. Iglesias's dedication and leadership were recognized, and she was appointed Assistant Principal and Athletic Director of Anne Chesnutt Middle School. In February 2023, Ms. Iglesias was awarded the Extra Mile Award for Cumberland County Schools, recognizing her outstanding contributions to education and her commitment to going above and beyond for her students and colleagues. Ms. Iglesias is not just an educator; she is a servant leader who firmly believes in the transformative power of building relationships. Throughout her career, Ms. Iglesias has consistently demonstrated her commitment to serving others and fostering a positive school environment through meaningful connections. Ms. Iglesias looks forward to serving the Shughart Middle School community.
