Sara Phillips

Biography

Ms. Phillips began her DoDEA career in 2009 in Okinawa, Japan. During her years with DoDEA, she has taught Special Education and secondary Language Arts. She previously served as an Instructional Systems Specialist for Secondary Literacy in DoDEA Americas. Prior to that assignment, Ms. Phillips served as a high school Assistant Principal in the Pacific South District and Lakenheath High School.

Throughout her career, Ms. Phillips has held many leadership roles. She has served as the Literacy Committee Chair for the Regional Continuous Improvement Plan, member of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Design Team at headquarters, Site Literacy Leader, and Continuous School Improvement Chair. She led monthly professional development with respect to CCRS implementation. As an educator opening a 21st Century School, Ms. Phillips lead staff development in the areas of models of co-teaching, 21st Century Instruction, and Literacy.

Growing up in Illinois, Ms. Phillips attended Eastern Illinois University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education, minoring in English Literature. Ms. Phillips received a Master of Arts in History from American Military University and her Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.

Ms. Phillips has strong ties to the military community. She is the daughter of a US Army veteran and has been married for eleven years to her husband Tyler, a US Air Force veteran. They have a six-year-old daughter, Cressida, who is excited about attending DoDEA schools. As a family they enjoy the outdoors, horseback riding, traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Phillips looks forward to serving the students, staff, and families at Elliott Elementary School. She believes all students have the ability to learn and works hard to ensure that students, families, and teachers receive the support they need.
