Course Description

This (semester) course examines Guam's history including the ancient settlement period prior to Ferdinand Magellan's arrival in 1521 up to the modern United States military buildup on Guam. The Spanish, Japanese and United States administration periods and development of self-rule will be discussed and analyzed. The course is designed to inform those interested about the diverse influences that have contributed to the culture and history of Guam. As a result, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Guam culture, history and values. They will also examine the qualities that make Guam unique. Course Note: This course fulfills the Social Studies Elective (.5) requirement.
