Comprehensive Assessment Program SY23-24

DoDEA Comprehensive Assessment Program SY23-24

DoDEA has worked with the Balanced Assessment Working Group (BASWG) to understand the needs of educators and students, and how to better connect curriculum, instruction, and assessment as a continuous cycle of improvement. Assessments are a critical leverage point of the cycle to allow leaders at all levels to understand how curriculum, instruction, and assessment can lead to instructional shifts necessary to reach every child. To further create this systemic, continuous approach of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, DoDEA will shorten the CCRS Assessment window and interim window for SY 23-24 to inform decisions and to provide students, educators, and caregivers with timely feedback. DoDEA recognizes that assessments are only a snapshot of a day in the life of a student and does not reflect the whole story of student success.

The CCRS Summative Assessment is not meant to be an assessment for the end of the 4th quarter of learning, but rather, an assessment that shows learning and growth over the course of the school year. The rigor of the CCRS summative assessment is targeted to assess at the 70% point of the school year, which the SY 23-24 Assessment Calendar for summative assessments covers. The SY 23-24 Assessment calendar CCRS summative assessment begins two weeks prior to the start date of all other years and end we1 week prior to the cut-off date of all other years. The CCRS summative assessment window in SY 23-24 spans over a 10-week window as it has in all other years. Based on the SY 23-24 Assessment Calendar, DoDEA is positioned to receive CCRS summative data back in a timely manner that would allow educators and instructional leaders adequate time to interpret student assessment results, set instructional goals, and align the goals with necessary shifts for increased growth (improvement), proficiency (value-driven measurement), and achievement (objective measurement of ability at a given point in time) for the whole child.
