Leadership Development Program
The vision of DoDEA's Leadership Development Program is to equip leaders who ensure excellence in education for every student, every day, everywhere.
The mission of DoDEA's Leadership Development Program is developing dynamic leaders who guide school communities that educate, engage, and empower military-connected students to succeed in a dynamic world.
The purpose of the Leadership Development Program is to provide support for the continued implementation of professional learning among DoDEA's leadership.
Student excellence is the ultimate outcome for everything DoDEA does, yet we know that goal cannot be fulfilled without sufficient success with DoDEA's other goals: student excellence, school excellence, talent excellence, organizational excellence, and outreach excellence. DoDEA's success depends upon continuous improvement, which is leveraged through meaningful learning opportunities and professional development for all DoDEA employees. As noted in DoDEA's Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, "a talented workforce is an essential element of student achievement" (p. 18), and effective instructional leadership is the linchpin in the relationship with high performing schools.
DoDEA's approach to instructional leadership is grounded in the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) provided by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration. As articulated in the PSEL report, "the Standards reflect a positive approach to leadership that is optimistic, emphasizes development and strengths, and focuses on human potential." Furthermore, "the Standards focus on accomplished leadership practice to inspire educational leaders to stretch themselves and reach a level of excellence in their practice, no matter where they are in their careers" (p. 3).
The Professional Learning Division will support the 2021-2022 CIL Priorities:
