Dr. Louis D'Angelo
Biography
Dr. Louis D'Angelo serves as the Superintendent, Department of Defense Education Activity- Europe Central (DoDEA-Europe Central). As the Superintendent for DoDEA schools in the Europe Central District, Dr. D’Angelo oversees 16 schools in Germany across the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC), Wiesbaden, and Baumholder communities. The Europe Central Superintendent’s Office is located on Kapaun Installation in Kaiserslautern, Germany and educates over 7,000 students and has more than 1500 employees.
Prior to his selection as Superintendent, DoDEA-Europe Central, Dr. D’Angelo served as the Chief of Staff for DoDEA Europe East. The Europe East District consisted of 31 elementary, middle and high schools spread across Germany in the KMC, Wiesbaden, Baumholder, Bavaria, and Stuttgart before being restructured into two districts in 2024 (Europe Central and Europe East).
Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. D’Angelo started his career as a high school English teacher in Chesapeake, VA. In 2006, he became a school administrator for Norfolk Public Schools. In 2012, Dr. D’Angelo joined DoDEA as an Assistant Principal at Edgren Middle-High School in Misawa, Japan. In 2014, Dr. D’Angelo was selected as the Principal of Zama Middle School, which became Zama Middle-High School. In 2018, Dr. D’Angelo was named as the Chief of Staff for the newly created DoDEA Europe East School District.Â
Dr. D’Angelo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, a Master’s Degree in English and Secondary Education, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. In 2011, he received his Doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration from The George Washington University.
Dr. D’Angelo and his wife reside in Kaiserslautern, Germany. They have two daughters, Lauren and Mariska. Dr. D’Angelo served in the Virginia Army and Air Force National Guard, retiring after 23 years of service. His family is steeped in military service, and he is honored to continue his service in support of military connected students and their families.
