Dexter School Celebrates Read Across America Week with Engaging Activities

Dexter School celebrated Read Across America Week earlier this month with a series of activities designed to foster a love of reading among students.
Volunteers, including parents and members of the garrison command, read to students and discussed the importance of reading. Daily themed activities included read-aloud sessions, book discussions, and creative projects inspired by books, transforming classrooms into literary wonderlands.
A visit from students of Faith Middle School, who shared their favorite stories, was a highlight of the week, promoting a sense of community and mentorship.
Third-grade teacher Ms. Smith dressed up as the mouse from "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," complete with ears, jeans, and a cookie necklace and earrings. "Seeing my students' excitement made every moment special," she said.
Her third-grade students agreed, saying, "Our favorite part was when our teacher dressed up as the mouse from 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie!' It made reading even more exciting."
The goal of the week-long event was to inspire a lifelong love of reading among students.
