Exciting Showdown at the DoDEA Pacific Book Battle

PACIFIC REGION –Ten schools from the DoDEA Pacific region gathered for an exhilarating virtual competition at the annual DoDEA Pacific Book Battle on Saturday, April 12, 2025. This trivia contest, designed by the school librarians for middle school students, tested students’ knowledge of ten selected books. Students were challenged to answer a total of 50 trivia book questions.
Each school could field a team of up to ten members. The total points for each school were averaged based on the number of team members.
The atmosphere was charged with excitement as students showcased their literary prowess. After a series of intense rounds, Yokosuka Middle School emerged victorious, claiming the top spot and the coveted Book Battle trophy. Last year's champions, Iwakuni Middle School, will pass the trophy to the new winners. Humphreys Middle School and Osan Middle High School placed second and third, respectively.
“It was exciting,” said Evangeline H., a sixth grader from Humphreys Middle School. “Next year, I will be prepared.”
The DoDEA Pacific Book Battle not only celebrated the students' love for reading but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among Pacific middle schools. Schools held book discussions leading up to the event, with the selected titles becoming some of the most checked out in the library, engaging many students throughout the school year.
Many schools were supported by their PTO, which supplied snacks and prizes for participating students. Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and dedication!
