Family STEAM Night at Edgren Middle High School

MISAWA, JAPAN – More than 40 middle school families attended Edgren Middle High School’s inaugural Family STEAM Night on March 5, 2025.
Created and organized by math teacher Olivia Erickson, the event featured exciting interactive stations including Gyotaku - Fish Prints, Sphero Robots, Earthquake Challenges, DIY Rockets, DNA experiments, Tessellation Art, Anatomy Dissections and more. Edgren's Robotics Team also showed attendees their team-built robot.
During the event, Jami LeFebre also held a Pi Competition to find the middle school student who could recite the most digits of pi. Third place went to sixth grade student Layanne El Kacimi, with 66 digits; second place went to seventh grade student Rafe Charbonneau, with 76 digits; and first place went to fifth grade student Isaac Shlemon, with 170 digits!
“We were thrilled to see STEM teachers from Edgren MHS and Sollars ES collaborate to make this event a huge success,” Erickson said. “It was fantastic to have so many of our current and future middle school students, along with their families, join us. With over 16 stations of interactive activities, demonstrations, and competitions, we really brought STEAM to life for our community. This night wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support from our families, administrators, the Booster Club, and local vendors. We hope this event becomes an annual event.”
