Grand opening of Garmisch Community School’s Meal Program
This week marked a significant milestone for Garmisch Elementary Middle School (GEMS) as the community celebrated the grand opening of the school meals program on Sept. 3. The event was filled with excitement and gratitude as students, parents, and staff gathered to witness the launch of this much-anticipated initiative.
The GEMS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) played a pivotal role in organizing the celebration, adding layers of festivity. The introduction of a hot meal option for students is a substantial enhancement to the school’s offerings, reflecting a broader commitment to student welfare.
"The provision of a hot food option is a mutually advantageous initiative," remarked Patrick Martin, East District Chief of Staff. This program is designed to offer nutritious meals, ensuring that students are well-nourished and capable of maintaining the focus and energy necessary for their academic success.
Students practiced the previous week walking through the cafeteria and meal line in preparation for the grand opening. Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) partners served tasty food samples for students to try during that trial day. The school prepared a comprehensive guide to help parents familiarize themselves with the LINQ Connect site to ensure a smooth transition. They also made resources available to assist parents in setting up their accounts.
“The launch of our school meals program represents more than just a new service—it's a commitment to the health and success of our students,” said Elizabeth Fales, East District Superintendent. “This milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community, and we're excited to see the positive impact it will have on our children’s learning experience.”
