Camp Humphreys, South Korea – Humphreys Central Elementary School was buzzing with excitement as students, families, and community members gathered for a night of fun, learning, and friendly competition at the school’s annual Pi Night celebration hosted by math specialists, Mrs. Rowena Sablan and Ms. Erica Browne. The event, which took place on Thursday, March 13, was filled with engaging math activities, including a highly anticipated Multiplication Bee that showcased students' skills and quick thinking.

The Multiplication Bee brought together top math students from third and fourth grade, all competing to see who could answer multiplication problems the fastest and most accurately. With each round, the difficulty increased, challenging students to stay sharp and focused. After an intense competition, the top three winners emerged victorious:

1st Place: Leo Ty 3rd Grade from Mrs. Flores class

2nd Place: Levi Howell 4th Grade from Ms. Pinero's class

3rd Place: Ethan Chambers 3rd Grade from Mrs. Reid's class

First place winner, Leo Ty shared, "I was really nervous about the multiplication bee. I was really happy to win the multiplication bee. I studied really hard. I studied all the way to the 19s. My parents helped me with my multiplication facts."

Ethan Isaacs, 3rd, Ms. Morris - "I feel nervous because I'm competing against 4th graders and I'm only in 3rd grade."

Kendall Thomas, 4th grade , Ms. Blando -  "I feel kind of confident and think it's going to be fun to compete. I studied all the way to the 15s."

Throughout the evening, families participated in a variety of Pi-themed activities, including hands-on math games, problem-solving stations, and a special Circle Tessellations Challenge, Pi Mobile, Fitness Circle Dance. Circle Packing Challenge, Virtual Reality activities, and so much more! The event also featured interactive STEM stations, making math come alive in a fun and engaging way.

Teachers and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the event was a success, and the turnout reflected the strong community spirit at Humphreys Central Elementary School. The school cafeteria was filled with laughter, learning, and a shared enthusiasm for math.

We love seeing our students excited about math, and Pi Night is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their skills while bringing families together. The Multiplication Bee was a fantastic addition this year, and we’re incredibly proud of all the students who participated.

“I think it was a wonderful night. I was so happy to see all the students and families come out and support our school,” Ms. Browne shared, “I was completely blown away by the students who competed in the Multiplication Bee! Huge shoutout to my teammate, our teachers, PTSO, our volunteers, and Student Council for making this event a success!”

The night was a true testament to the power of collaboration, learning, and community engagement, reinforcing the importance of making math both fun and meaningful. Humphreys Central Elementary School looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.
