Naples NJROTC cadets assist in Sailor of the Year selection

Cadets from the Naples High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) recently played an active role in the selection process for the U.S. Navy’s Sailor of the Year, conducting interview boards for active-duty sailors stationed across Naval Forces Europe.
The event, held onboard Naval Support Activity Naples, brought together top-performing enlisted sailors who were nominated by their commands for exemplary performance, leadership, and dedication to duty. As part of the evaluation process, the NJROTC cadets participated in formal interviews to assess the candidates' professionalism, accomplishments, and readiness for advancement.
The experience provided cadets with a rare opportunity to observe and take part in a high-level Navy selection process. Their involvement offered insight into the standards and expectations placed on today’s enlisted leaders and contributed to their own development as future leaders.
Two sailors from the group of candidates will move forward to compete for the Navy-wide Sea and Shore Sailor of the Year titles. Those final boards will be held in Norfolk, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., later this year.
The Sailor of the Year program, established in 1972, honors the Navy’s top-performing enlisted personnel from commands around the world.
