Every March, DoDEA celebrates Music in Our Schools Month to emphasize the crucial role of music in student success. This celebration is perfectly illustrated by Michael's inspiring journey from a curious young guitarist in California to a high school drum major and scholarship recipient.
Michael's parents recognized his interest in the acoustic guitar early on and supported his musical endeavors. His passion for music deepened when his family moved to Camp Lejeune, where he met Mr. Tim Tyson, a seasoned music teacher with over forty years of experience. Under Mr. Tyson's mentorship, Michael's musical abilities thrived.

Michael is set to attend Duquesne University next year, aiming to become a music teacher. He has earned both academic and music scholarships, which he credits to his dedication and the unwavering support of his parents and music teacher.
