Shughart Elementary Gets a Book Vending Machine

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the PTA and members of the community, the students at Shughart Elementary are buzzing with excitement about a brand-new book vending machine they recently received! This innovative and brightly colored vending machine has sparked curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the school, as students eagerly anticipate being able to earn tokens and select free books of their choice.
Stocked with a variety of captivating titles, the vending machine offers books tailored to PK-5 students, ensuring every young reader finds something inspiring. But there's more to this machine than just books—it serves as a reward system, encouraging positive behavior, academic achievements, and participation in school initiatives. Students will have the chance to earn special tokens that unlock the treasure trove of stories inside.
Principal Bronwynn Crutchfield and Assistant Principal Donald Rush hosted a grand unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, April 2, during a staff meeting to commemorate this exciting milestone. Principal Crutchfield proudly pointed out an important message displayed on the machine's front. The message states, "Encouraging reading and rewarding positive behavior." She expressed her enthusiasm about this statement, noting that students will now have the power to earn free books through hard work, good character, and adherence to the school's core values (respect, responsibility, kindness, and resilience).
During the unveiling, Assistant Principal Donald Rush demonstrated the magic firsthand, successfully retrieving a book using one of the tokens that will be given to the students. "We want every student to feel the magic of choosing from the many books available in this vending machine," he said. Sandra Ray, the school's Information Specialist, played a crucial role in setting up the book vending machine by curating hundreds of popular and engaging books that align with DoDEA guidelines, cater to student interests, and create excitement about reading.
With the addition of this fantastic vending machine, the Shughart Elementary Pirates are making huge strides toward fostering a love for reading while also celebrating outstanding behavior, character development, and dedication to learning. The PTA remains committed to raising funds, so the machine remains stocked with fresh, thrilling titles for students to enjoy.
