Dr. Shanea Ruh
Dr. Ruh is a Student Information Systems (SIS) Specialist in the Office of the Registrar, Education Policy and Operations Division at DoDEA Headquarters. She is also the alternate contracting officer’s representative for the new DoDEA SIS contract. She is responsible for ensuring that the DoDEA SIS, which contains student enrollment, attendance, grades, transcripts, health, and student support services information for current and former students, meets customer needs across HQ, regions, districts, and schools, while aligning to all policy requirements, as well as partnering with the Information Technology COR, contracting officer, contract specialist, and vendor to ensure contract requirements are met.
DoDEA’s “go live” for the new DSIS on July 19, 2022, which included a new grade book and online registration system, was possible due to Dr. Ruh’s understanding of the complexity of the project and close partnership with the IT Program Management Office, HQ Procurement Division, and DSIS vendor. Within the first week of the new SIS implementation, DoDEA parents submitted over 3,000 student registration requests through DSIS online registration. As of the end of September 2022, more than 12,000 students have been enrolled in DoDEA students using this new system.
Dr. Ruh helped coordinate extensive configuration, testing, and training, including user acceptance testing that involved DoDEA teachers, registrars, ISSs, ETs, and other staff from across all regions and districts.
Dr. Ruh’s insistence on providing user training that was supported by both the vendor and DoDEA allowed all teachers and registrars to access real-time support during their workdays. Dr. Ruh facilitated many of the Q&A sessions, including several back-to-back, late night and early morning sessions.
Dr. Ruh’s leadership in this ongoing project combined support and accountability with a focus on meeting customers’ needs. While working on any solution or communication, Dr. Ruh consistently considers the impact on school staff, families, and students and encourages the team to do the same.
