April Hallback selected as Principal for Murray Elementary

Brian Perry, the Department of Defense Education Activity community superintendent for South Carolina and Fort Stewart, is pleased to announce April Hallback as the new principal for Murray Elementary School at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Hallback will assume her duties on January 18.

“Ms. Hallback brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will greatly benefit the students and teachers at Murray Elementary School. Specifically, her work as an experienced elementary teacher, instructional coach, and an administrator will be a great addition to our leadership team,” said Perry.

“I am delighted to be a part of the Murray family and excited to serve the Ft. Stewart community in this capacity,” said Hallback.

About April Hallback

April Hallback is a lifelong learner and believes every child can learn and have success. Her strengths include differentiated instruction—meeting every learner where they are and helping them reach their goals, horizontal and vertical alignment, planning, coaching and mentoring her team. She believes in cultivating and nurturing a positive climate, while building community with students, staff, families and other stakeholders.

Hallback joins DoDEA with more than 11 years of experience in elementary education. She held the positions of teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal during her time in education. She began her career in education as a teacher in Oklahoma City Public Schools and Shawnee Public Schools, also in Oklahoma.

Hallback also brings experience in supporting military-connected students and families. She was the director for the Child Development Center at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, located in Japan. Later, she was the school liaison at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, located in California. While there, she advocated for military and military-connected students within the local school district, provided support and resources for parents and students of military families, provided training for military sponsors, and was the liaison between the installation, the community and the local school district.

Hallback hails from Florida and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she served as a Hospital Corpsman. She was stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma at Norman, where she earned her master’s degree in education. She is the mother of three adult children and in her spare times she enjoys traveling, interior decorating and going to the beach.
