The Mid-Atlantic District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vickie Bannerman as the New York/Virginia Community Superintendent, effective April 21, 2024. Dr. Bannerman brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to excellence in education to her new role, having dedicated over 24 years to the field of education.

Bannerman's illustrious career in education has seen her evolve from a classroom teacher to a respected state-level cabinet executive. Before joining the Mid-Atlantic District, she held the significant position of Chief Academic and Compliance Officer in Albuquerque, NM. In her role as Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the Identity, Equity, and Transformation Division at the New Mexico Public Education Department, Bannerman made notable contributions by serving and supporting over 322,989 students, 21,681 teachers, 854 school principals, and 129 districts and superintendents across the state. Her leadership extended to the Indian Education, Language and Culture, Special Education, and Charter Schools Divisions, among others, evidencing her broad impact and the respect she commands in the educational sector.

Bannerman's journey in education also includes serving as the principal of Volcano Vista High School and Wilson Middle School in Albuquerque, NM, and as the Director of Graduate Programs for the University of Oklahoma campuses in England. Her academic credentials are equally impressive, with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and African and African American Studies, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration, and a Doctorate of Education with a concentration in Educational Administration from the University of Phoenix.

A committed family person, Bannerman is married to MSgt Carlton Bannerman, a proud member of the United States Air Force, and is a mother to two children. Her personal and professional life is guided by a purpose-driven passion for serving military-connected students, schools, families, and communities, making her an exemplary leader for the New York/Virginia Community.

The Mid-Atlantic District looks forward to Dr. Bannerman's leadership and is confident in her ability to foster strong partnerships and deliver exceptional educational outcomes for the communities of New York and Virginia.
