Battey named as new principal for Pierce Terrace Elementary School

Fort Jackson, SC —
Brian Perry, the Department of Defense Education Activity community superintendent for South Carolina and Fort Stewart, is pleased to announce Mr. Robert Battey as the new principal for Pierce Terrace Elementary School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Mr. Battey will assume his duties on February 27, 2023. “Mr. Battey brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will greatly benefit the students and teachers at Pierce Terrace Elementary School. Specifically, his work with early childhood education, professional learning communities, school improvement and tiered interventions for students will be a great asset to our team,” said Perry.
Mr. Battey is looking forward to working with all stakeholders to prepare students for the 21st century and beyond. “It is through a partnership between home and school that we are able to identify and build upon each child’s strengths, using the resources in place to educate, engage, and empower each child to succeed.” said Battey. “I look forward to developing the necessary relationships to make that happen.”
About Robert Battey
Prior to his appointment as principal of Pierce Terrace Elementary School, Mr. Battey has been an administrator with DoDEA at Fort Campbell Schools for three years. During that time, he was the assistant principal at Barsanti Elementary School and served as an interim principal at Mahaffey Middle School. Before joining DoDEA, Mr. Battey got his start in administration as an assistant principal in Plainfield, Illinois. Later, he became an elementary school principal in Yorkville, Illinois. Mr. Battey taught 2nd and 4th grade in Plainfield, Illinois.
Mr. Battey earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University, and master’s degree from Governor’s State University. He, his wife, Susie, and children enjoy traveling and exploring the great outdoors. They are looking forward to getting to know the students, faculty and staff, and parents at Pierce Terrace Elementary School.
