Blake Sims named Far East Academics Coordinator
Okinawa, Japan —
DoDEA Pacific Region Director for Student Excellence, Ms. Lois Rapp, is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Blake Sims as Far East Academics Coordinator, effective Oct. 16, 2023.
Mr. Sims joined DoDEA as an educator in 2014, teaching elementary and middle school Health and Physical Education at Daegu American School. He then transitioned to Daegu Middle High School, teaching Health and PE while coaching basketball, football, golf, and volleyball and supporting the school as the Athletic Director. Prior to joining DoDEA, Mr. Sims taught 14 years in Henry County, Ga. – 5 years as a special education teacher and 9 years as a Health and PE teacher.
As the Far East Academics Coordinator, Mr. Sims will organize and support the Pacific’s many academic activities, to include Creative Expressions, Culinary Arts, Drama and Performing Arts, FIRST Tech Challenge, Harvard Model Congress Asia, Honors Music Festival, Jazz and Modern Music Festival, Journalism, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, SPARK (STEM Program Advancing Research Knowledge), and the SUN Journal.
Mr. Sims holds a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Georgia College and State University and a master’s degree in Special Education, also from Georgia College and State University.
He is honored to continue serving DoDEA’s military-connected students in this new role.
