Sembach, Germany —

Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, Department of Defense Education Activity – Europe Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Louis D’Angelo as the new DoDEA-Europe’s Central District Superintendent. "D’Angelo’s appointment as superintendent is a testament to his exceptional leadership and dedication. With six years of invaluable experience as chief of staff and also acting as the current community superintendent, his firsthand knowledge and strategic vision will undoubtedly set the district up for continued success. I am confident that under his guidance, we will not only maintain our achievements but exceed and create new opportunities for growth and excellence," states Brahaney.

Before his selection as Superintendent of DoDEA-Europe Central, D'Angelo served as the Chief of Staff for DoDEA Europe East. The Europe East District consisted of 31 elementary, middle, and high schools in Germany's KMC, Wiesbaden, Baumholder, Bavaria, and Stuttgart, before being restructured into two districts in 2024 (Europe Central and Europe East).

Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, D'Angelo started his career as a high school English teacher in Chesapeake, VA. In 2006, he became a school administrator for Norfolk Public Schools. In 2012, D'Angelo joined DoDEA as an Assistant Principal at Edgren Middle-High School in Misawa, Japan. In 2014, D'Angelo was selected as the Principal of Zama Middle School, which became Zama Middle High School. In 2018, D'Angelo was named the chief of staff for the newly created DoDEA Europe East School District.

D'Angelo holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and Journalism, a Master's Degree in English and Secondary Education, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. In 2011, he received his Doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration from The George Washington University.

D'Angelo and his wife reside in Kaiserslautern, Germany. They have two daughters, Lauren and Mariska. D'Angelo served in the Virginia Army and Air Force National Guard, retiring after 23 years of service. His family lineage is deeply connected to military service and he is honored to continue his service in support of military-connected students and their families.

D’Angelo is an exceptional educational leader who understands the needs of our students and families,” said Brahaney. “His journey as a teacher, administrator, and in other key leadership roles, as well as his experience as a military service member, make Louis the right person to serve as the next DoDEA Europe Central District Superintendent.”
