DoDEA Europe Announces Europe East District Acting Superintendent
Sembach, Germany —
Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, DoDEA-Europe Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Joseph Lovett as the acting Superintendent for Europe’s East District effective Feb. 20, 2024. He will serve in this capacity until a permanent superintendent is selected. Mr. Lovett currently serves as the Europe East Community Superintendent.
 The current superintendent, Mr. Steven Sanchez was selected to participate in the highly competitive Defense Senior Leader Development Program in Washington, D.C.

Lovett’s career supporting our nation’s military connected children began with the Department of Defense Education Activity in 1983. Originally from Minneapolis, MN., he has worked in education for 48 years. Lovett joined the Europe East District Office as Community Superintendent in Aug. 2020. His prior assignments have been as Community Superintendent for Europe West at RAF Feltwell in the UK; principal at Vogelweh ES, Ramstein ES, and Bitburg ES; assistant principal at Mannheim ES; business officer for the Hessen District Superintendent’s Office; classroom teacher at Darmstadt Elementary School, and elementary classroom teacher in Minnesota from 1976 to 1983. Mr. Lovett was named DoDEA Europe Elementary Principal of the Year in 2017.
 In addition to his professional activities, Lovett has supported his community through serving as a volunteer with community theatres, Deutsche Basketball Bund, school parent-teacher associations, and booster clubs. His three adult children graduated from General H.H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden and his youngest son from Ramstein HS. Lovett’s family lives in the Kaiserslautern Military Community, where his wife Kimberly Lovett works as a teacher of students with visual impairments at Ramstein Intermediate School.
