DoDEA Pacific High Schools Participate in Harvard Model Congress Asia

VERITAS. Harvard Model Congress Asia

Korea —

DoDEA Pacific students recently joined about 350 students from 10 different countries to participate in Harvard Model Congress Asia, a government simulation event, held at Ehwa Womans University in Seoul, Korea. This was the first time since 2019 students were able to gather in-person for this event.

“DoDEA students debated domestic and international issues, practiced public speaking, and formulated government policy in a globally diverse arena,” said Yolanda McCrimmon, Pacific West District Social Studies Instructional Systems Specialist. “I am proud of our students' leadership and successful participation at the Harvard Model Congress.”

Several DoDEA Pacific students also received accolades for their performance.

“I have always considered myself to be involved in politics and concerned for international affairs; however, the outlets for experiences like these have become limited, especially with the presence of a global pandemic,” said Guam High School student Lily Vinch, who received an Honorable Mention for the G-20 Committee. “Having HMCA as an outlet for a real-life model of what government and parliamentary procedures are actually like is a perfect experience for those interested. Having the ability to have this experience for the first time and being able to be awarded an honorable mention for best delegate is still something I am not able to fully realize.”
