DoDEA Pacific selects Jason Sheedy as Region Principal of the Year

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Pacific region is pleased to announce Mr. Jason Sheedy, principal of Edgren Middle High School in Misawa, Japan, as the 2023 DoDEA Pacific Principal of the Year.
“Mr. Sheedy is a dedicated, thoughtful, and experienced school administrator,” said Ms. Lois Rapp, DoDEA Pacific Region Director for Student Excellence. “A believer that all principals are first and foremost instructional leaders, Mr. Sheedy establishes high expectations and uses data to strategically support student achievement. He cultivates a collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is valued and encourages students, staff, and parents to take an active role as leaders. This has positively benefitted the entire Edgren Middle High School community.”
Mr. Sheedy has served as principal at Edgren Middle High School since August 2021. He has served as a principal in the DoDEA Pacific region since 2013, with principalships at Andersen Middle School from 2013-16 and Guam High School from 2016-2021.
“We’ve been working very hard as a Edgren team, and I think we’re heading in the right direction,” Mr. Sheedy said. “I appreciate the recognition; it means a lot. Pacific East and Misawa is a great place to be. This award was not only earned by me; it was earn by the faculty, staff, parents, and students of Misawa Community.”
Mr. Sheedy holds a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Education Administration and Supervision and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland – Asia.
The DoDEA Principal of the Year Program recognizes one outstanding school principal in each region. These individuals have succeeded in leading high-quality learning opportunities for students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the profession. The process begins at the local level, where principals are nominated by peers, employees, parents, students or community members.
One of the Regional awardees will be selected as the DoDEA Principal of the Year, and proceed through a national association nomination process, representing DoDEA at the national level. During the year, the chosen Principal of the Year will serve as an ambassador to their profession, be provided leadership growth opportunities, and support DoDEA priorities and initiatives.
DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-age children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to local educational agencies throughout the United States that serve children of military families.
