Guam —

DoDEA Pacific West District Superintendent Dr. Jacob Sherwood is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Shanida Threatts as principal of Andersen Middle School, effective April 22, 2024.

Dr. Threatts is genuinely excited to join Andersen Middle School. She firmly believes in the transformative power of education and is committed to ensuring every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.

Dr. Threatts has served as an assistant principal at EJ King MHS in Sasebo, Japan, since 2021. She supports the school's purpose statement to provide an environment that inspires and empowers students to become successful lifelong learners in a global society. She has created a positive climate and culture fostering collaboration.

Her educational journey began at Wheeler Middle School in Wahiawa, Hawaii, where she taught grades 6-8. She continued her teaching career in North Carolina and Georgia. In 2014, Dr. Threatts joined DoDEA, working as a first grade teacher at Landstuhl Elementary Middle School in Germany. After returning to Hawaii, she taught kindergarten and fifth grade at Mililani Mauka Elementary School and actively participated in retention, recruitment, data, and school improvement committees. Additionally, she contributed as an Educational Specialist on the Hawaii Elementary (K-5) Social Studies Standards Revision Writing Team.

Reconnecting with DoDEA at Fort Moore, Georgia, she taught fourth grade at McBride Elementary and later moved to Faith Middle School, where she taught seventh grade U.S. History. She also served as a basketball and cheerleading coach. Her dedication led her to join the school's leadership team as the PLC Chair and a CSI member, where she provided valuable insights that promoted collaboration and communication among stakeholders.

She earned her bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, she obtained her master's degree in Elementary Education and doctorate in Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix. Her doctoral research explored military families and students' service and commitment, thus gaining a more profound understanding of the uniqueness of the military community.

Dr. Threatts takes great pride in her ties to the military and is deeply committed to the welfare of military families and students. Her pride is further amplified by her retired husband's service in the U.S. Army and the fact that her children were educated in DoDEA schools. Her son was a Landstuhl Elementary Middle School student, while her daughter graduated from Baumholder Middle High School in Germany. She extends her heartfelt gratitude to all military personnel and their families for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice. She enjoys snorkeling, hiking, and cherishing moments with her grandson in her free time.
