Joseph Lovett Selected as Acting Superintendent for Europe West

Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, DoDEA-Europe Director for Student Excellence, announces that Mr. Joseph Lovett has been selected as the acting Superintendent for Europe’s West District. “Mr. Lovett brings a wealth of experience and leadership ability to this position. He knows the West District well and I am so pleased to announce him as the acting Superintendent,” said Dr. Brahaney.

Mr. Joseph Lovett’s career supporting our nation’s military connected children began with the Department of Defense Education Activity in 1983. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, he has worked in education for 46 years.

Mr. Joseph Lovett joined the Europe East District Office as Community Superintendent in August 2020. His prior assignments have been as Community Superintendent for Europe West at RAF Feltwell in the UK; principal at Vogelweh ES, Ramstein ES, and Bitburg ES; assistant principal at Mannheim ES; business officer for the Hessen District Superintendent’s Office; classroom teacher at Darmstadt Elementary School, and elementary classroom teacher in Minnesota from 1976 to 1983. Mr. Lovett was named DoDEA Europe Elementary Principal of the Year in 2017.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Lovett has supported his community through serving as a volunteer with Community Theatres, Deutsche Basketball Bund, School PTAs, and Booster Clubs. His three adult children graduated from General H.H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden. Mr. Lovett’s family lives in the Kaiserslautern Military Community, where his wife Kimberly Lovett works as a teacher of students with visual impairments at Ramstein Intermediate School.
