Lorien Gustafson selected as AP for Lejeune HS

Dr. Donato Cuadrado, the Department of Defense Education Activity Mid-Atlantic District superintendent, is pleased to announce Lorien Gustafson as the new assistant principal of Lejeune High School at Camp Lejeune, NC. Gustafson will assume her duties in July.

“Lorien Gustafson’s career has taken her from North Carolina to Germany. In the process, she has learned a lot about what it means to be an educator with DoDEA and how best to support military children,” said Dr. Cuadrado. “She brings this knowledge, along with her leadership in literacy and supporting communities of people, to Lejeune High School.”

Lorien Gustafson has master’s degrees in education and education leadership. She comes to Camp Lejeune after spending 15 years oversees with the DoDEA Europe East District teaching seventh grade English and language arts; she spent the last two years as the information specialist for Patch Middle School in Stuttgart, Germany. Her career with DODEA began in 2000 at Brewster Middle School, also at Camp Lejeune, where she taught sixth grade English and language arts for four years.

“I will always remember my Patch Middle School family, European vacations, bakeries and life-long German friends,” said Lorien Gustafson. “But I am thrilled to return to North Carolina to serve the teachers and the Camp Lejeune community as the newest member of the Lejeune High School Devilpups.”

Throughout her career, Gustafson has exercised her passion and creativity to support learning for students and challenge her professional growth.

• She was instrumental in the launch of the College and Career Ready Standards in all content areas as the site literacy leader.
• As a leader in the Patch Middle School leadership team, she used student achievement data as a tool to develop programs to support the school’s literacy and math goals. She also developed diversity events and weekly gatherings to build a positive climate among teachers and staff.
• Most recently, Gustafson developed a presentation for the 2021 DoDEA Access and Equity Summit to endorse reading and the direct correlation to increase student achievement.

Camp Lejeune is considered home for Gustafson and her family. She will be joined by her retired Marine spouse, middle school daughter, two dogs and two cats.
