Malone named Special Education Instructional System Specialist (ISS) Supervisor for DoDEA Americas, Mid-Atlantic District

Peachtree City, GA —

Dr. Judith Minor, the Department of Defense Education Activity Americas Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce Ms. Mary Beth Malone as the new Special Education Instructional System Specialist (ISS) Supervisor for DoDEA Americas, Mid-Atlantic District. She will support the 26 DoDEA schools in New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Cuba, and Puerto Rico in this position.

"Ms. Malone's work in this new special education supervisory role will be important for the Americas as we continue to meet the needs of our students with special needs and their teachers," said Minor. "Her exceptional credentials will be a valuable addition to further supporting our leadership team."

Malone joined DODEA in 2015 as the Autism Instructional Systems Specialist. In 2020, she transitioned to the Special Education Instructional Systems Specialist position at Fort Liberty.

Malone received her Bachelor of Science in Collaborative Education from Birmingham Southern College. In addition, she received a Master's in Collaborative Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master's in School Psychometry. Mary Beth continued her education at Samford University and received a Master's and Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership and Administration from Samford University in Alabama. Recently, Mary Beth became a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.

Before working in DODEA, Malone was a District-level Special Education Supervisor in Moore County Schools in North Carolina. She oversaw special education programs and ensured compliance and accurate district reporting for 26 schools to the state.
Before moving to North Carolina, Malone was a Supervisor in Exceptional Education with Jefferson County Schools in Birmingham, Alabama. Jefferson County Schools is one of the largest districts in Alabama, with 56 schools. As a supervisor, Malone supervised special education programming and staff, focusing on district programs in specialized reading, autism, behavior, compliance, and assessments. In addition, she served as a mentor to new teachers in the Lead Mentor Program.

Before working for Jefferson County Schools, Malone was the Director of Education at Universal Health Services, a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest hospital management companies in the United States. She was responsible for special education regulatory compliance. She also worked with the CEO of the Alabama Clinical Schools to attain accreditation with the Joint Commission and the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

Malone began her career as a Montessori teacher at Bruno Academy in Birmingham, Alabama, teaching preschool to fifth-grade students. She also taught special education at the elementary and high school levels in the Shelby County Schools in Alabama.
