Ms. Lois Rapp, DoDEA Pacific Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Michelle Ewing as the Nursing Instructional Support Specialist for the Pacific Region.

Ms. Ewing has served as the nurse at Ikego Elementary School, located at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, since 2014. She began her nursing career working in long-term care and medical surgical nursing.

She holds an associate degree in nursing from Olympic College, a bachelor's degree from Penn State World Campus, is currently pursuing a master's degree in School Nursing from Our Lady of the Elms College.

Ms. Ewing was a military spouse for more than 18 years and has three military-connected children, ages 22, 19 and 16, with her youngest most recently attending Kinnick High School. She draws upon her knowledge of the military resources and environment to provide quality care to her students’ families. Ms. Ewing has a strong customer service background and maintains an open-door policy for her staff, students, families, and colleagues. She is a strong advocate for improving the health education of our students beginning in the preschool and elementary grades and has created interactive lessons for her student population related to safety and self-care, sleep hygiene, personal hygiene, puberty, and hydration management. She led Ikego Elementary School’s Safety Patrol program, where students learned personal responsibility and teamwork and she served as the school’s COVID Coordination Team Lead. Michelle also maintained active membership in the Data Critical Initiative Workgroup throughout school year 2021-2022.

Michelle seeks out opportunities to collaborate with community members to improve outcomes for students and staff and is problem/solution focused. As the Focused Collaboration Facilitator for the Pacific East School Nurses, she provided opportunities to collaborate with her team to create educational resources and health-promoting activities for students of all grade levels. She looks forward to serving the Pacific Region and creating an environment where students are healthy, happy, and thriving in this dynamic world.
