Mr. Joseph Gullekson selected as Principal for The Sullivans Elementary School

Dr. Judy Allen, DoDEA Pacific East District Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Joseph Gullekson as Principal for The Sullivans Elementary School.

During his 30-year educational career, Mr. Gullekson has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, math coach, campus instructional technologist, district enrollment director, assistant principal, and elementary principal. Through his wide-ranging career experiences, Mr. Gullekson continually looks for what is best for the students and teachers he has served over his career.

Mr. Gullekson earned a bachelor’s degree from Mayville State University with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Coaching. He earned his master’s degree from Tarleton State University in Educational Administration. Currently, he is working toward his Doctorate of Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

For the past 12 years, Mr. Gullekson served as the Principal of Richard E. Cavazos Elementary School with the Killeen Independent School District, which serves 46,000 students from Fort Hood Military Base and the surrounding community. Mr. Gullekson opened the school in 2009 and has built a school community that supports high expectations for the students, staff, and community. Recently, Richard E. Cavazos Elementary School was honored to be named a “Purple Heart School” by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Under Mr. Gullekson’s leadership, Richard E. Cavazos Elementary School was the first school to host district-wide instructional rounds, which provides feedback for short-term and long-term instructional goals. Mr. Gullekson and his leadership team also co-founded, planned, and hosted the first Killeen ISD Science Olympiad, hosting 10 elementary schools across the district. The Killeen ISD Science Olympiad Event has since grown to 30 elementary schools with more than 500 students participating. Mr. Gullekson believes that all students can learn to their maximum potential when provided with every opportunity available.
