Sembach, Germany —

Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, DoDEA–Europe Director for Student Excellence, proudly announces Ramstein Intermediate School Principal Ms. Caryn Currie as the 2024 DoDEA-Europe Principal of the Year.

With over 27 years of service, Caryn has demonstrated her exceptional ability to create positive teaching and learning environments for staff and students. Her unwavering dedication to her profession is evident through the countless hours she has spent mentoring and guiding her colleagues, as well as her students. Caryn's remarkable leadership qualities and her ability to inspire and motivate others have made her a role model for many within the DoDEA community. This recognition is a testament to her outstanding achievements and the profound impact she has had on students,” said Dr. Howard-Brahaney.

For over two decades, Currie has served with DoDEA as a teacher, assistant principal and other school improvement leadership roles and is currently the principal of Ramstein Intermediate School in the Ramstein military community. Her DoDEA experience includes both teaching and leading at the elementary school levels across America and European regions. She has increased high academic achievement as a faculty member of SHAPE Elementary being awarded the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence. She has been recognized for student excellence locally and regionally and continually has shown strong educational leadership by setting high expectations for school staff and students. She is truly respected by students, colleagues, parents and the DoDEA community.

The DoDEA Principal of the Year Program recognizes outstanding school principals, one in each region, who have succeeded in leading high-quality learning opportunities for students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the profession. The process begins at the local level, where principals are nominated by peers, employees, parents, students or community members.

One of the Regional awardees will be selected as the DoDEA Principal of the Year, and proceed through a national association nomination process, representing DoDEA at the national level. During the year, the chosen Principal of the Year will serve as an ambassador to their profession, be provided leadership growth opportunities, and support DoDEA priorities and initiatives.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-aged children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Educational Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
