Ms. Mary Mullins selected as Principal of Matthew C. Perry Elementary School

Iwakuni, Japan —
Dr. Judith Allen, DoDEA Pacific East District Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Mary Mullins as principal of Matthew C. Perry Elementary School, located at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan.
Ms. Mullins attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sports Management. Ms. Mullins received a Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Additionally, she earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado.
Ms. Mullins’ DoDEA experience includes working as a Learning Impaired Mild to Moderate Needs Special Education teacher at Netzaberg Elementary School in Germany and Assistant Principal at three elementary schools in the Pacific East District. Prior to DoDEA, she held positions in elementary, middle, and high schools. She taught as an affective needs teacher, mild/moderate needs teacher, and fourth grade teacher in Colorado Springs and served the military community of Fountain-Fort Carson in this capacity. Ms. Mullins has extensive experience in supporting students with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic areas.
Serving in various leadership roles throughout her educational career, Ms. Mullins has actively participated in district and school-wide initiatives including Positive Behavior Support (PBIS), Response to Intervention (RtI), Behavior Evaluation Support Team (BEST), Accreditation and Accountability, and Teacher Mentoring. She has acquired professional training in a variety of areas which focus on data driven instruction, social-emotional learning, and continuous school improvement.
Ms. Mullins has a passion for educating and engaging all children with a special fondness for military-connected students, whose resilience and bravery inspire her daily. She believes in empowering individuals to be lifelong learners and knows all students can achieve success with high expectations and appropriate support. Ms. Mullins values connecting and collaborating with students, families, staff, and community members to provide well-rounded opportunities for growth and celebration for our students.
Ms. Mullins enjoys embarking on new adventures and making memories with her family. She also enjoys photography and is a sports enthusiast. Ms. Mullins is excited to continue to work with the students, staff, families, and community members in Iwakuni.
