Todd Carver selected as Principal for Bitz IS

Ryan Smith, the Department of Defense Education Activity community superintendent for Camp Lejeune, is pleased to announce Todd Carver as the new principal for Bitz Intermediate School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Carver will assume his duties in mid-December.

“Dr. Carver understands the culture and the specific needs of our military families at Camp Lejeune, and he’s passionate about serving our students,” said Smith. “Dr. Carver is a veteran of the Marine Corps, has been a DoDEA educator for more than a decade, and is a parent to sons that were educated in DoDEA schools. He brings a collaborative leadership style that will serve our community well.”

Carver has been a DoDEA parent, a volunteer at schools, a DoDEA educator and intimately involved in all aspects of educating military connected students.

“The faculty and staff of Bitz Intermediate have worked hard to create and maintain a rigorous, student focused learning environment,” said Carver. “To have the opportunity to stand alongside the faculty and staff and to work collaboratively with our military connected families on Camp LeJeune is an honor and privilege. I look forward to this opportunity.”

About Todd Carver

For more than a decade, Carver has served military-connected students and families while working for DoDEA. Most recently, he served as the principal for E. A. White Elementary School at Fort Benning, Georgia.

During his DoDEA tenure, Carver led the district’s Digital Learning Task Force, facilitated professional development of 21st-century teaching and learning and piloted the district’s Project Based Learning program. He also was instrumental in overseeing the transition of schools in DoDEA’s Southeast District to a digital learning environment in response to COVID-19.

Additional DoDEA service includes assistant principal for E.A. White Elementary and Faith Middle School; educational technologist instructional system specialist for the Americas Southeast District; educational technologist at Faith Middle School; and computer science teacher at Zama Middle High School in Japan.

Carver earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Maryland, a master’s in teaching and instructional technology from National University, a master’s in organizational leadership, also from National University, and his doctorate in business and organizational leadership from Northcentral University.

Prior to joining DoDEA, Carver served on active duty in the Marine Corps as a signals intelligence officer, retiring honorably after 23 years of service. Carver and his wife, Kellie, raised their three sons overseas, where all three grew up attending DoDEA schools. They are proud to point out that their sons carry on the tradition of service to country, as all three currently serve on active duty in the Marine Corps. Carver and his wife, Kellie, are proud of their military service and continued commitment to our military families.
