USAREUR Coronavirus message

A cluster of coronavirus cases in a small town in Lombardy, Italy, was first identified on Thursday, February 20, and the number of cases has risen steadily.

On Friday, the Lombardy government and Italian Health Ministry ordered the closure of all public and commercial activity in ten small towns in Southern Lombardy centered around Codogno, about a 45-60 minute drive from Vicenza. In this decree, residents of those 10 towns were asked to stay home and avoid contact with others.

There are NO cases of coronavirus in the City of Vicenza, or in the Vicenza Darby, or Ghedi military communities. There are; however, 17 cases of the Coronavirus in the Italian Veneto Region, and a total of 79 confirmed cases in Italy.

As a precautionary measure, USAG-Italy will close all VMC DODEA schools and activities, CDC, and CYS activities, gyms, post theater, and religious services from Monday through Wednesday, 24-26 FEB. There is no change in operations at Camp Darby.

Soldier, civilian and family members are directed to limit any non-essential travel to Comune di Vo' Euganeo and Lombardy region. Families in the Vicenza Military Community are encouraged to stay close to home and minimize interactions with crowds, such as at malls, movie theaters, and restaurants.

USAG-Italy is working closely with its host nation partners, closely monitoring the situation, and has plans in place to respond and safeguard the community if the situation worsens. The safety and health of everyone in the community is the paramount concern.
